Financial Support for Adult Students

At Salford City College Group, we understand that financial concerns should not be a barrier to education. That’s why we offer a range of bursary and funding options to help eligible students with essential costs, including travel, childcare, and general expenses while studying. 

19+ College Bursary

19+ College Bursary is designed to support students aged 19 and over who may experience financial difficulties while attending college. This bursary can help with costs such as travel, meals, and course-related expenses. 

 

Guidance on the application process can be found here.  Remember you may have to prove your identity and possibly confirm residency status and household income.  Allow plenty of time for submission of your application and all supporting evidence.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be aged 19 or over at the start of your course.
  • Your household income must be below £30,000 before tax, including all adults who have financial responsibility for you.
  • You must be studying at least 12 hours per week on an eligible course.
  • You must maintain 100% attendance and fully engage with your studies. 

Financial Support Available: 

Eligible students may receive up to £15 per week to help with essential college-related costs.

Advanced Learner Loan Bursary

Students who have taken out an Advanced Learner Loan to cover their course fees may also be eligible for additional financial support. This bursary is designed to assist with costs such as travel, course materials, and other essential expenses. 

 

Guidance on the application process can be found here.  Remember you may have to prove your identity and possibly confirm residency status and household income.  Allow plenty of time for submission of your application and all supporting evidence.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be aged 19 or over.
  • You must have taken out an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees.
  • Your household income must be below £50,000 before tax.
  • You must maintain 100% attendance and fully engage with your studies.

Bursary Payment Based on Household Income: 

Household Income Weekly Bursary Amount
Below £50,000 Up to £10 per week
Below £40,000 Up to £20 per week
Below £30,000 Up to £30 per week
Below £20,000 Up to £10 per week
Below £16,000 Up to £50 per week
Below £10,000 Up to £60 per week

20+ Childcare Funding

Balancing education and childcare can be challenging, and we are committed to supporting parents in accessing further education. The 20+ Childcare Fund provides financial assistance to students who need help covering the cost of childcare while studying. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • You must be aged 20 or over at the start of your course.
  • Your household income must be below £30,000 before tax.
  • You must be enrolled in a full-time college study programme.
  • Please note: Students studying a Foundation Degree, Degree Top-up, Higher National Certificate (HNC), or Higher National Diploma (HND) are not eligible for childcare funding. 

Childcare Support Available: 

  • Half Day: Up to £25 per day
  • Full Day: Up to £50 per day
  • Before and After School Clubs: Up to £10 per day 

We support eligible students with childcare costs, but students are responsible for paying their childcare fees directly.

Applying for financial support is simple. Applications can be submitted online, and students may be required to provide supporting documents, such as proof of household income, proof of Advanced Learner Loan approval (if applicable), and evidence of childcare costs.
